‘Toxic Tour’ Will Lead Environmental Justice Reps Throughout New Bedford

Concerned about local involvment in environmental projects, the president of C.L.E.A.N. is leading environmental justice representatives on a tour of New Bedford's contaminated sites.

The "toxic tour" will be led Wednesday by Eddie Johnson, with reps from the Toxics Action Center and the Conservation Law Foundation viewing the Parker Street Waste Site and the dredging of the New Bedford harbor. Johnson tells WBSM News he hopes to also take them to the Eversource property, in hopes they can advocate for local involvement on the proposed cleanup there. "That should allow businesses as well as local people, including the construction trade, to be employed on that project," said Johnson.

The tour comes a week after the Conservation Law Foundation released a report claiming there may be more contaminated sited in New Bedford than previously thought.
