Grief counselors are meeting with students and staff at West Bridgewater High School after the death of a popular student-athlete in a car crash.

Police said 18-year-old Paul Chuilli, Jr., apparently lost control of his car on a curve and struck a tree on Aldrich Road late Wednesday morning. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pull the teen from the wreckage, but he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Chuilli was a senior and a football player at the high school and was the son of a Bridgewater firefighter.

Students, parents, and teachers gathered at the high school Wednesday night to remember Chuilli, who was described by the school's principal as a hard-working and well-liked student who "always had a smile on his face."
