A plan to make Fairhaven's governmental structure more streamlined has gotten the approval of town meeting members. During Saturday's annual Town Meeting, members voted to replace the town's executive secretary with a town administrator.

The change comes after a year long study conducted by the Town Government Study Committee. Committee chairman Phil Washko says the change in positions will better establish a central point of control.

The town administrator will manage and direct the daily reporting and supervision of all town departments.

Along with this structural change, there will also be changes to the organization of the Board of Public Works. Town meeting members voted 79 - 62 in support of an article making the BPW an advisory board that would answer to the new town administrator.
