Tuesday is prelimnary Election Day in New Bedford.

Election Commission Chair Maria Tomasia says with few contested races on the ballot, all signs point to a small turnout.

However, Tomasia tells WBSM News, she's hoping a hotly contested race in Ward Four will bring out the voters.

"You have a lot of well known people, the majority of them have held the position, with the exception of one who is new to the field. So, these are all people with experience who know what's involved so I'm anticipating they're really going to push for that vote," she said.

The other contested race will narrow down the field in the Councilor At Large contest from 11 candidates to ten.

Tomasia is predicting a turnout of 11 to 14% but she's hoping it will be higher. The polls open at 7am and remain open till 8pm.
