NEW BEDFORD — Police responded to a report that a vehicle was driving erratically, traveling south on a north-only section of South Second Street and striking parked vehicles and construction barrels.

Officers located the driver outside the vehicle in the area of Walnut Street and South Second Street. He was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was transported to St. Luke's Hospital.

The driver will be summonsed on the following charges: leaving the scene of a property damage accident; OUI liquor third offense; possession of an open container of alcohol; and operating with a suspended license.

The name of the person charged has not been released, pending their arraignment. The incident was reported at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday.
