Teaching candidates seem to be interested in jobs in New Bedford despite the school district being labelled under-performing.

More than 200 candidates dropped off resumes Saturday during New Bedford's first-ever Teacher Hiring Fair.

Supt. Dr. Pia Durkin remembers a conversation last August with someone who told her, no teachers will apply to a level four district....

Durkin says New Bedford will have between 50 and 100 vacancies to fill, partly because of the turnaround plan taking effect at New Bedford High School, plus other resignations and retirements.

She says New Bedford will be taking part in other hiring fairs in the near future.
