A Taunton man is facing drug and weapons charges after he was pulled over by State Police Wednesday night.

Massachusetts State Police say that at around 11:45 p.m. two troopers were conducting an investigation on Summer St., as they were trying to locate a suspect who had assaulted a trooper earlier in the evening.

At one point the troopers observed a man matching the suspect's description drive by them in a white Chevrolet Malibu.

The driver took off at a high rate of speed when troopers attempted to make contact with him.

They eventually caught up with the driver at the Mechanics Bank on Summer St. and, upon approaching, reported seeing him engage in dangerous movements.

It was determined that the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Hector Rodriguez, wasn't the man involved in the previous assault.

However, it was determined that he was in possession of a substance, believed to be heroin, and a silver, Raven Arms .25 Caliber firearm.

Rodriguez was placed under arrest on charges of Use of a Firearm While Committing a Felony; Trafficking in Heroin; Operating with a Suspended/Revoked Registration – Subsequent Offense; Speeding; and a Marked Lanes Violation.

He was taken to the Bristol County House Of Correction and Jail where he was held on $25,000.00 bail pending his arraignment in Taunton District Court.
