The trial of a Taunton man charged with killing his father-in-law in 2010 is scheduled to start early next year.

The Taunton Daily Gazette reports that prosecutors announced Monday that Richard Forbes is scheduled to face a murder charge on Jan. 6 in Fall River Superior Court.

Authorities say Forbes fatally shot 59-year-old Francis Douglas Carreiro in August 2010. The men lived in different halves of the same duplex and there had been tension between the two.

Carreiro's body was found several days after he was killed.

Two other men Forbes allegedly recruited to help him with the killing have also been charged.

Forbes previously said that his father-in-law was in poor health.
