Taunton Man Charged in June Slaying

A Taunton man is charged with murder.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office on Thursday formally charged 19-year-old Lorenze DaVeiga with the June 27 killing of 24-year-old Marques McCassie in Taunton. DaVeiga also faces additional charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He was arraigned Thursday in Taunton District Court.

Taunton Police say on the evening of June 27, they received multiple reports of gunshots in the area of Weir Street. Four people were injured from gunshot wounds and transported to area hospitals. McCassie was one of the victims, and was later pronounced dead at Morton Hospital.
