A dog belonging to a Taunton family is back home, safe and sound, after falling down a well.

Lorienn Higgins told ABC6 her two-year-old Goldendoodle, Buddy, went missing Monday night and the family was concerned that someone had stolen him.

However, on Tuesday morning two of her kids saw another dog looking down the family's well and spotted the dog at the bottom.

"The father dog was standing on one of the rocks near there and looking down there so we thought that he might be down there and we went to go look down there and we saw him looking up at us,” said Tyler Higgins.

Fire crews were called to the scene and were able to use belts to pull him up.

It's believed that Buddy may have jumped on tires and wood that were covering the well and fire officials say the padding it provided may have saved his life.

"That was a long drop 25 foot. I thought for sure the dog would've died if it fell that far," said Fire Lt. Thomas Bernier "I think if it was a smaller dog it probably would've died.”

The family tells ABC 6 News they plan to get the well filled in, but for now their grateful that their four legged family member was rescued and is safe.

"We are happy that he is safe with no injuries," said Lorienn Higgins, "thanks to Taunton firefighters.”
