President Barack Obama has nominated two people with strong ties to Massachusetts to run the Energy Department and Environmental Protection Agency.

Obama on Monday promoted current EPA official Gina McCarthy to lead the agency and MIT scientist Ernest Moniz to run the Energy Department.
