After several years of grappling with the dangers of synthetic drugs in the city, the New Bedford Board of Health adopted new regulations Thursday to implement an outright ban on the sale of the substances effective immediately.

A cadre of city officials gathered at New Bedford City Hall Tuesday afternoon to announce new, stricter regulations on synthetic drugs.

Synthetic drugs can currently be purchased in many stores in New Bedford.

According to South Coast Today.com, the city of New Bedford is “looking to ban synthetic drugs or man-made, chemically laced substances, known as K2, spice or potpourri from local store shelves.”

Over a dozen states have passed laws banning synthetic cannabis, but Massachusetts isn't one of them.
