If you plan on bringing your vehicle to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket this year and did not make a Steamship Authority reservation already, you’re behind the ball.

The Cape Cod ferry Steamship Authority announced June 22 that most of its systems are functioning again and it did not pay a ransom after a cyberattack earlier this month.

State police arrested a Dorchester man in Falmouth on Monday in connection to a reported rape on the Woods Hole ferry.

The Steamship Authority, which runs ferries to and from Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket, was the target of a ransomware attack.

The Steamship Authority could see a $26 million deficit this year, and the SSA's five port communities were on the hook for any red ink.

The ferry service was on the verge of being shut down, said U.S. Rep. Bill Keating.

Authorities have not determined the source of the spill of more than 200 gallons.

The SSA runs ferries linking Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket with Cape Cod, and operates a vessel repair facility in Fairhaven.

Like so many on the list of "What's missing in New Bedford," the ferry service to the Cape and islands ignores an otherwise perfect opportunity.

A scathing report on the inefficiencies of the Steamship Authority shows the organization needs to learn from its mistakes.
