A New Bedford man has been charged after he allegedly ordered his pit bull to attack a 13-year-old girl, resulting in the child being bitten four times.
The Fall River Police Department says that they responded to Bay Street and Mount Hope Avenue at about 8:15 p.m. for a report of a dog attacking a child.

William Whitson, of Fall River, was convicted Thursday and faces sentencing next Friday.
The Herald News reports that Whitson said he stabbed the pit bull in self-defense because it bit him and wouldn't let go as he tried to stop it from attacking a smaller dog outside his barbershop in 2015
