Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Rick Sullivan has announced over $300,000 in funding to create a walking path on the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier.

The $352,800 grant will finance a 10-foot wide walkway atop the barrier, complete with lighting, benches and handrails

Elected officials from New Bedford and Fairhaven and the Army Corps of Engineers joined in a celebration Thursday of the 50th anniversary of the start of construction of the New Bedford-Fairhaven Hurricane Barrier.
