Local and State Police responded to New Bedford High School Wednesday morning after a student reported seeing a suspicious device in a stairwell. Some 2400 students and faculty were evacuated from the building at around 9:15 and police discovered that the item in question was a thermos bottle with milk in it covered in aluminum foil. The students returned to class about an hour later and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Pia Durkin praised all those involved from the police to the students and staff for their actions during the potential emergency.
