NEW BEDFORD — Police have arrested a New Bedford man after officers were investigating the report of a stolen moped.

When officers were checking into an incident involving a moped at Monte's Park Playground, they report Sterling Robinson, 19, of Fruit Street, New Bedford, became disorderly and interfered with the officers.

While being placed under arrest, police say Robinson pushed the arresting officers and continued to resist the arrest. A search of the suspect yielded a knife larger than the city ordinance allows to be carried.

Further investigation connected Robinson to the stolen moped, according to the New Bedford Police Department. He is charged with carrying a weapon, interfering with a police officer, receiving stolen property and assault and battery on a police officer.

The incident happened late on Tuesday afternoon.
