A Rhode Island man charged with a fatal shooting in Massachusetts has been ordered held without bail.

William Tate of East Providence, R.I., was held after pleading not guilty Tuesday to murder and firearms charges in connection with the shooting in Fall River last weekend of 26-year-old David Rodriguez.

Police responding to the Ship's Cove apartment complex just before 1 a.m. Sunday found the victim outside near a loading dock. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 34-year-old Tate was arrested later Sunday in Rhode Island.

The Herald News reports that Tate's lawyer, Jack Atwood, asked that his client be held without prejudice, meaning bail can be requested in the future. He also requested funds to conduct his own investigation and preserve video surveillance evidence.  (Associated Press)
