Suspect Charged With Attempted Armed Robbery
New Bedford Police Photo[/caption]Police make a quick arrest following an attempted robbery at a New Bedford variety store.
Det. Capt. Steve Vicente says a man entered Penny's Variety on Arnold Street Wednesday night, wearing a hoodie and mask and demanding the clerk open the register. The clerk refused, and when a second employee emerged from a back room, the man ran from the store without getting anything.
The employee saw an outline of a weapon underneath the man's sweatshirt, but he never showed it.
Police were called, and within minutes a suspect walking at Hawthorne and Ash Streets and was taken into custody. Police say 24 year old Tyrell Williams was carrying a backpack that contained the seatshirt, mask gloves and a pellet gun. He was charged with attemped armed robbery while masked.
