A Maryland surgeon who traveled to his native Sierra Leone to help treat Ebola patients there, has died at a Nebraska hospital.

Dr. Martin Salia passed away at the Nebraska Medical Center today.

Salia was diagnosed with Ebola while in Sierra Leone and was airlifted back to the U.S. on Saturday in extremely critical condition.

The 44 year old was the tenth Ebola patient to be treated on U.S. soil, and the third person to be treated at the Nebraska Medical Center.

Dr. Salia leaves behind a wife and two children.
