WBSM and the United Way of Greater New Bedford will be teaming up to help local families struggling with hunger as part of the Stuff the Truck Event being held Saturday morning at the Stop & Shop in Fairhaven.

Michelle Hantman, President of the United Way of Greater New Bedford told WBSM's Phil Paleologos they have a wish list of particular items they are hoping to collect.

"Things like peanut butter, pasta, rice, macaroni and cheese, cereal, tuna fish, canned meat, vegetables and fruits...all of those things are a part of our wish list and always needed at pantries," said Hantman.

However, Hantman says it's not just food that is needed.

"Baby wipes are very much needed, and diapers," said Hantman "with diapers all sizes are welcome but sizes four, five, and six are the most in need."

This is the first year the event is being held on a Saturday which Hantman hopes will mean that more people will be getting involved, especially young people.

"Our hope is that when people are out and about doing their errands that they will stop by," said Hantman "and it's a great way to kids involved and a really simple way to give back and expose them to the need and how they can participate."

WBSM will be hosting a live broadcast at the event which begins at 6 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m.
