New Bedford Police have now released information about a fight involving two students at Normandin Middle School.

A teacher reported to police on Thursday she saw a 13 year old male student holding a 12 year old boy in a choke hold. The teacher yelled for the older student to release the boy, and when he did the boy dropped to the floor, striking his chin on a stool.

The boy was treated in the school nurses office for a laceration on his chin and then taken to St. Lukes Hospital. He was later transfered to Boston Children's Hospital. Parents of both children were notified.

Det. Capt. Steve Vicente says the case is still under investigation. He says an disciplinary action will be handled thru the school, and criminal charges, if warrented, will be brought by the police.
