Storm Update: Bitter Cold Hits Northeast
Residents in the Northeast are getting a one-two punch of snow and bitter cold. A winter storm has dumped over a foot of snow in some areas and now dangerously cold temperatures are settling in. Parts of the Atlantic coast are getting wind gusts over 30 miles-per-hour and temps have dropped into the single digits across much of New York. Air travel has been snarled with over four-thousand delays or cancellations reported at U.S. airports.
At least two deaths have been blamed on the storm. There was a fatal accident near Emmitsburg, Maryland when a driver lost control and slammed into a tractor trailer. Authorities in Kentucky say a woman died after her car skidded on an icy highway and hit a tree. (Metro Networks Inc.)
