A new display of public art in Downtown New Bedford carries an environmental theme.  "Habitat" includes seven steel and masonry representations of eelgrass.  Its located in the plaza outside the Front Street headquarters of the Buzzards Bay Coaltion.  Its designer is local artist John Magnan who tells WBSM News, the steel sculptures add to the quality of life in New Bedford.

The display also carries an environmental message; the eelgrass in Buzzards Bay is disappearing because of nitrogen pollution.  The coalition is working to reduce nitrogen pollution in the bay.  Also assisting with the project was the city Dept. of Public Facilities which constructed the bases for the steel, and Horacio's Welding and Sheet Metal that fabricated the steel.
