A Massachusetts state trooper has been hospitalized after an alleged drunken driver struck a police cruiser from behind while it was stopped at a red light.

State police said in a statement that the trooper was stopped at a traffic light on Route 138 north in Easton at about 9 p.m. Monday when the cruiser was rear-ended.

The trooper was taken to Boston Medical Center with neck and back injuries. The trooper's name was not public.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the police vehicle was identified as 26-year-old Luke Anderson of Brockton.

He was arrested at the scene and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and operating to endanger.
