State Releases Scores From PARCC Trial Test

Massachusetts education officials have released full statewide results from PARCC exam last spring as they near a decision on whether it should replace MCAS as the state's primary educational assessment tool.

The figures show 60 percent of students who took PARCC in grades three through eight met expectations in the English Language portion of the test, and 52 percent met expectations in math.

With the exception of the fourth grade, the percentages were below those who scored proficient or above on the MCAS exams.

Massachusetts has been giving PARCC _ which is aligned with federal Common Core standards _ a trial run for the past two years in some communities.

The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education plans to vote Nov. 17 on whether to adopt PARCC, keep MCAS or possibly combine the two tests.
