Major rehabilitation work has been completed on the East wharf of the New Bedford State Pier and the pier can begin receiving cargo shipments immediately. The state's Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rick Sullivan says the project represents a significant investment in the public infrastructure that will support businesses and local efforts to promote sustained economic development. The repairs are part of a larger $1.4 million rehabilitation plan announced in September that involves additional work to the pier's south wharf over the next three months. The repairs will allow New Bedford to market the pier for break bulk and wind industry opportunities.
