New Bedford-based Vineyard Wind has cleared a major environmental hurdle.

According to Statehouse News Service, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs this week approved the firm's final environmental impact report.

Vineyard Wind wants to create an 800-megawatt wind farm project 15 miles south of Martha's Vineyard.

Meantime, the D-P-U is winding down its review of Vineyard Wind's power purchase agreements. That decision is due in March, as is a tentative decision from the Energy Facilities Siting Board.

Vineyard Wind hopes to financially close on the project in 2019, with onshore construction beginning in 2020.

The completion of the 84-turbine wind farm is expected in 2022.
