Eversource says the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities has approved new supply rates for residential customers.

Mike Durand, the Media Relations Manager for Eversource in Massachusetts, says on the South Shore, Cape Cod and Greater New Bedford, who use 500 kilowatt-hours per month, will see a roughly 20 percent decrease in their total bill.

That means a customer currently paying $124 per month will pay $99 per month.

Customers in Eastern Massachusetts as a whole will drop by 33 percent, from 15.046 cents to 10.050 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The new rates will to go into effect on July 1.
