The Standard Times is reporting the City of New Bedford is entrenched in serious negotiations with Foxwoods Casino Resort to build one of the state's three licensed casinos on a familiar site.

The paper says according to sources, Foxwoods and the investment group Crossroads Massachusetts LLC have decided all proposed sites in Fall River are unsuitable for a resort casino, and have now turned their eyes to the Whaling City Golf Course on Hathaway Road.

Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan says he has no knowledge of any decisions, adding he's been working diligently with Foxwoods over the past several weeks.

New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell's office would not confirm the report, pointing only to a statement issued by Mitchell in April saying his door is open to casino developers or operators "interested in exploring a gaming proposal that is the right fit for New Bedford."
