UMass Dartmouth Police are investigating after a stabbing Thursday night.

Joseph Sullivan, a Public Affairs Specialist with the University, says that at around 11:26 p.m. a student was apparently stabbed during an altercation in his Cedar Dell apartment.

Witnesses also claimed that a firearm was displayed.

The victim, identified as a 20-year-old male,  was said to be conscious and alert when he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Sullivan says Massachusetts State Police are assisting with the investigation, and there are said to be several persons of interest.

It is believed the suspect fled the scene in a dark car immediately following the altercation.
