Roman Catholics in the Greater Fall River area were shaken recently with the news that St. Anne's Church in Fall River will be closing later this month. The announcement came from the Fall River Diocese. It has been estimated it would take more than $13 million to make necessary repairs to the church building. Because of that reason and declining attendance, officials decided to close the 112-year old church on November 25. Luis Carvalho of Fall River has begun an online fundraising campaign, hoping to show the Diocese that there is much community support to keep St. Anne's open. Carvalho visits Townsquare Sunday this week to discuss the campaign and the ongoing effort to convince church officials to reverse their decision.

Townsquare Sunday with Jim Phillips can be heard each Sunday at 6 a.m. on WBSM 1420 and WBSM.com. Townsquare Sunday is a weekly public affairs program highlighting non-profits and community organizations in the Greater New Bedford area.
