The Boston Red Sox added to their first base/designated hitter depth Tuesday, as they agreed to terms on a one-year deal with former Texas Ranger Mitch Moreland.

The deal is reportedly worth $5.5 million and will likely allow the Red Sox to ease last year's first baseman Hanley Ramirez into the disignated hitter role recently vacated by the retiring David Ortiz.

Moreland, a 7-year vet, had spent his whole career in Texas, prior to becoming a free agent after the 2016 season. In 773 career games, the left-handed hitter has belted 110 homers and driven in 354 runs.

His best season came two years ago when he belted 23 home runs, drove in 85 runs and slashed .278/.330/.482 in 132 games.
