A local woman has been nominated to the state's highest court.

Elspeth Cypher, 57, of Assonet was nominated today by Governor Charlie Baker to replace Justice Margot Botsford, who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 this March.

Cypher served 12 years as a prosecutor in Bristol County, and has served on the state appeals court since 2000.

She is Baker's fourth nomination to the seven-member Supreme Judicial Court since taking office a little more than two years ago.

Cypher is a graduate of Emerson College and Suffolk University School of Law.
