Southcoast Health Donates Five New Defibrillators To City

Ambulances belonging to the New Bedford Emergency Medical Services Department are now equipped with five new high-tech defibrillators, courtesy of Southcoast Health.

The new Zoll X-Series Monitor Deflibrillators were unveiled Thursday during a ceremony outside St. Luke's Hospital.

Southcoast President Keith Hovan says the new medical gear can help save lives. "Patients in distress are now having their vital signs sent directly to the Emergency Department while they are still en route, saving critical time, in minutes and even seconds to make a difference between life and death."

Hovan also joined the Mayor and EMS Director Mark McGraw in honoring teams of E-M-S personnel for providing extraordinary care to patients experiencing cardiac events.
