Fun 107 congratulates the SouthCoast Corsairs Robotics team for their performance at the New England District Championship in Boston last week. The team is made up of students from Greater New Bedford Voc Tech, New Bedford High School, Dartmouth High School, Westport High School, Bishop Stang and Tec Connections Academy.  Team Captain Andrew Sullivan tells Fun 107 that out of 209 teams that made up the New England District, the Corsairs were ranked in the high 40's heading into the competition...with the top 64 teams receiving invites to the tournament.

After experiencing some minor mechanical failures (all of which were fixed within minutes), the team finished the qualification matches in 51st place out of the 64 teams present.  However, Sullivan said, their luck soon changed. The #1 seeded alliance chose the Corsairs as their third pick...and they we won their first and second quarterfinal matches...followed by a semifinal win.  Incredibly, they made it all the way to the finals.

Three of the best teams in New England (including AIRSTRIKE 78, a team who often helps us out) against three other teams who also represent the best of New England (one of which was us).  The Corsairs team, with their alliance partners pulled off a huge win in the New England District Championship for the 2018 FIRST POWER UP season."  --Andrew Sullivan

The team is now automatically qualified for the First World Championship.  The competition will take place from 4/25-4/28 in Detroit.  The Corsairs are now ranked 16 out of the 209 teams in New England.   The team, which has existed for three years, is now moving onto Worlds for the third year in a row.
