NEW BEDFORD — Three people were hospitalized Monday afternoon following a car crash at the intersection of West and South Rodney French Boulevards.

At about 2:50 p.m., a white Jeep Cherokee traveling south on West Rodney French Boulevard onto South Rodney French Boulevard lost control and hit a guard rail and struck the University of Massachusetts School for Marine Science and Technology, or SMAST, building.

The male driver was transported to Rhode Island Hospital as a precaution. A female backseat passenger and a male front passenger were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.

Police say the accident remains under investigation, and charges are possible against the driver.
