The top candidates for the governor's office in Massachusetts will spend an hour debating each other on the South Coast Friday afternoon.

Martha Coakley and Charlie Baker are scheduled to take the stage at the UMass Dartmouth auditorium at 4 p.m. Friday, in a debate organized by the South Coast Alliance, a consortium of media outlets and community organizations.

Chairperson Craig Dutra of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts says the debate indicates the candidates are taking the South Coast seriously.

The debate will be moderated by UMass Dartmouth's Political Science Committee Chairwoman Shannon Jenkins.

It will be broadcast live on WBSM at 4 p.m. Friday.
