In Boston's bustling South Station, a local group is spreading awareness of the future South Coast Rail line.

The Rail to Boston Coalition held a news conference to announce the MBTA will take over leadership of the project. The coalition consists of nearly 20 local business and community organizations that want to see this project completed.

MBTA General Manager Dr. Beverly Scott says the proposed rail connection is key to economic growth.

Local mayors and law makers in attendance agreed there is a major need for this connection to the rest of the Commonwealth.

Coalition Co-Chair Paul Chasse says this group came together to reconnect the area to the hub.

The project is still a long ways away, but the planning stage is expected to be completed by 2016.
