Crossroads Massachusetts, one of the major backers for a proposed Somerset casino, has withdrawn its application for a Region C casino license.

Karen Wells, Director of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission's Investigations and Enforcement Bureau, made the announcement during the Commission's meeting on Thursday.

Scott Lebeau, Chairman of the Somerset Board of Selectmen, says that announcement doesn't necessarily mean there won't be a casino in Somerset.

"There's alot of moving parts in respect to whether or not a casino proposal comes forward," says Lebeau "and currently I know all those avenues are being sought after and there are many moving parts and so one cog may fall out another cog inserts itself and another proposal may or may not come forward on its own merit."

Lebeau says their consultants have informed them that the town has other options besides Crossroads Massachusetts and those options are being pursued.
