FALL RIVER —  More than 40 petitions for the recall of Mayor Jasiel Correia were handed to the Fall River City Clerk on Friday.

According to The Herald News, the petitions contain the names of about 1,700 registered Fall River voters. The report says the stack of petitions will be given to the Board of Elections to confirm that each person whose signature appears is a register Fall River voter. A total of 2,510 certified signatures are needed by the 19th of November to have the recall process continue.

Mayor Correia was indicted by a federal grand jury and then arrested on 13 counts of wire and tax fraud. Correia is accused of using more than $230,000 of investors money related to his SnoOwl app company.

After his arraignment, Correia said he will not resign the office of mayor, and that he will fight the charges. The Fall River City Council recently passed a "no confidence" vote.

The group responsible for the recall effort told The Herald News that public response to their efforts is very positive.
