A Sobriety Checkpoint will be in effect in Plymouth County this weekend.

Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Colonel Richard D. McKeon says the checkpoint will begin Friday and run into Saturday.

It will operate during varied hours on a public way.

The stated purpose of the checkpoint is to "further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways. "

McKeon says any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety, safety will be assured, and the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary.

The Sobriety Checkpoint is being funded through a grant provided by the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
