A "Sobriety Checkpoint" will be implemented in Plymouth County this weekend.

Colonel Richard McKeon, the Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, says the checkpoint will be in effect Friday and Saturday and will operate during varied hours.

McKeon says the selection of vehicles won't be arbitrary, any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety, and safety will be assured.

The program is being funded through a grant provided by the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

McKeon says the purpose of the checkpoint is to " further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways."
