The Massachusetts State Police will be conducting a "Sobriety Checkpoint" in Bristol County this weekend.

State Police Superintendent Colonel Timothy P. Alben says the checkpoint will begin Friday and last into Saturday.

Alben says the checkpoint will be operated at varying hours, the selection of vehicles won't be arbitrary, and that safety will be assured.

A State Police press release says the purpose of the excercise is to educate motorists and strengthen public awareness about the need to detect and remove drivers who operate under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol from our roadways.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from The Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Office of Public Safety and Security.
