A Sobriety Checkpoint will be in effect in Bristol County this weekend.

Colonel Richard D. McKeon, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, announced the checkpoint saying it will be implemented on a Public Way during varied hours from Saturday into Sunday.

State Police say the selection of vehicles won't be arbitrary, inconveniences to motorists will be minimized and safety will be assured.

The purpose of the excercise is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen public awareness about the need to detect and remove motorists from state roadways who drive under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

The Sobriety Checkpoint is being funded through a grant provided by the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
