Scientists and grad students from the UMass School of Marine Science and Technology recently traveled aboard the fishing vessel "Justice" to the southern end of Georges Bank,  to check out a system they hope will give fishing regulators a true picture of groundfish stocks.

The equipment involves both underwater cameras, a swim-through net, and the actual catching and counting of fish.

SMAST Director Dr. Kevin Stokesbury tells WBSM News, he's encouraged by the research effort.....

Stokesbury says scientists and students will continue to tweak the process.

They plan another research trip in the spring
