DARTMOUTH - A small basement fire broke out at a home located at 179 Rogers St. Tuesday afternoon.

The daughter of the homeowner came home to smoke in the house and smoke detectors sounding, according to District 1 Fire Chief Brad Ellis.

The fire was quickly knocked down by firefighters and was isolated to a small corner in the basement containing materials such as books and papers.

No injuries or structural damage occurred, though there was some smoke damage to be cleaned.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
