The news broke Sunday night that three Afghan National Army soldiers have been reported missing from a training exercise at Camp Edwards on the Cape..

U.S. military officials say the soldiers had been participating in a Regional Cooperation training exercise. They arrived at Camp Edwards on September 11 and were last seen at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis.

Military officials say the soldiers are not a threat to the public. Do you agree?

I have friends on the Cape who were obviously concerned when they heard the news last night. Most of them didn't even know this conference was going on.

This morning, I was trying to figure out what the options might be. I can only think of a few.

  • I hope it's just a miscommunication.
  • If they had gone off for a night of fun and drink, wouldn't they be heard from by now?
  • If they were a victim of crime, wouldn't there be some sign of them?
  • There were no traffic accidents reported in the area.
  • Someone mentioned the possibility of defecting. Wouldn't the State Department know?

I hope there is some good news today and while I don't think it's time to panic, it is time to be aware.
