At least one gunshot was fired in the South End last night as two men fled the scene of a home invasion.

According to New Bedford Police, officers responded to reports of a single gunshot on Warren Street in the South End around 9:30. Two men had broken into the apartment of a 36-year-old male and held him at gunpoint while they pilfered his safe.

The victim then chased the suspects out of his home, and escaped injury when one of the men fired a bullet in his direction. The bullet was recovered by police at the scene.

The suspects are described as light-skinned males, standing at about 5'11". Police are also looking for a white BMW with a black bumper, that may have been used as the getaway car.
