Bike riding is a great way to stay in shape and spend some great family time together.  I noticed this as we loaded up the bikes and headed to North Falmouth to check out the Shining Sea Bikeway.

The Bikeway was created using an old train route, allowing riders to go from North Falmouth to Woods Hole.  The ride is just about 11 miles and is pretty easy as the path is well paved and does not have any steep hills.  What you will see on this ride is some beautiful scenery.

Because we started in North Falmouth we started off traveling through some cranberry bogs, then through West Falmouth Harbor, where birds were hunting for food in the marsh grass.  We then traveled through Great Sippewissett Marsh all the way down to Vineyard Sound where the waves were crashing on the beach, we then headed into Woods Hole where the path ends right at the Steamship Authority.

We watched as the ferry loaded up people and vehicles and headed over to the Vineyard for a fun day.  We took a quick ride around Woods Hole and the Oceanographic Institute and then headed back up the trail.  Over all we did close to 23 miles on the bikes and it was pretty easy.

If you don't want to do the whole trail there are other parking lots dotted along the trail and you can head off in either direction and enjoy some pretty fabulous views.
